Terms of Service

Draft — last updated 2026-10-29. This text is a working draft and has not yet been reviewed by counsel.

These terms are an agreement between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] ("ThankMu", "we", "us"), whose registered address is [REGISTERED ADDRESS]. They apply to the ThankMu website, browser plugin and account service (together, the "Service"). By using the Service you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the Service.

1. What the Service is

The ThankMu plugin blocks advertising in your browser. It is free. Separately, you can create an account, buy prepaid tokens, and spend them to read articles that are behind a paywall at publishers who have partnered with us ("Partner Publishers"). Publishers receive a share of what readers pay. We are not a publisher of the articles and we do not control their content.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least [MINIMUM AGE] years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher.
  • Give accurate information and keep your login details secret. You are responsible for activity on your account.
  • Tell us promptly at [CONTACT EMAIL] if you think someone else has used your account.
  • One person, one account. You may not sell or share your account.

3. Tokens

  • What tokens are. Tokens are prepaid credits recorded in your ThankMu account. They are not money, not a cryptocurrency, not a security and not an investment. They do not earn interest and they have no value outside the Service.
  • No transfer or cash-out. Tokens cannot be transferred to another person, sold, gifted or exchanged, and cannot be redeemed for cash.
  • Buying. We show the price and the number of tokens before you pay. Card payments are processed by our payment provider, Stripe, under its own terms. We do not receive or store your full card number.
  • Spending. Tokens are spent when you choose to open an article at a Partner Publisher. We show the cost first. A completed spend gives you access to that article for your own personal reading.
  • Refunds and unused tokens. [TOKEN REFUND AND EXPIRY POLICY]
  • Chargebacks and fraud. If a payment is reversed, disputed or found to be fraudulent, we may void the tokens bought with it, and recover from publishers what they earned from them.
  • Changes. We may change token prices and the cost of articles for future purchases and spends. We will not change what you have already bought or spent.

4. Partner Publishers

Partner Publishers decide what is behind their paywall and what it contains. Articles are subject to the publisher's own terms and copyright. Spending tokens gives you personal access, not the right to copy, republish or resell. We do not promise that any particular publisher or article will be available.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service unlawfully, or to commit or hide fraud, including using stolen or unauthorised payment methods;
  • use scripts, bots or other automation to open or copy articles at scale, or to evade limits we set;
  • share, resell or republish paywalled content, or let others use your account to read it;
  • attempt to transfer, sell or cash out tokens, or to create accounts to abuse offers or limits;
  • probe, disrupt or reverse engineer the Service beyond what the law and any open-source licence allow;
  • impersonate others or give false information.

We may limit, suspend or close an account that breaks these rules. We will tell you why where we reasonably can.

6. The plugin and open-source software

The plugin includes open-source software, which is licensed under its own licence terms. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licences. Ad blocking may cause some sites to behave differently, and we do not promise that every ad will be blocked or that every site will work.

7. Privacy

How we handle personal information is described in the Privacy Policy.

8. Availability and changes

We work to keep the Service running but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change or stop features. If we make a material change to these terms, we will tell you in advance by email or on the Service. If you keep using the Service after the change takes effect, you accept it.

9. Ending your account

You can stop using the Service at any time and ask us to close your account at [CONTACT EMAIL]. What happens to any unused tokens is covered by section 3. We may suspend or close your account for breach of these terms or where the law requires.

10. Liability

The Service is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we exclude all implied warranties and are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including your statutory consumer rights.

11. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW JURISDICTION]. Disputes will be handled in the courts of that jurisdiction, unless mandatory consumer law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
