Privacy Policy

Draft — last updated 2026-10-29. This text is a working draft and has not yet been reviewed by counsel.

This policy explains what personal information [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] ("ThankMu", "we") collects when you use the ThankMu website, browser plugin and account service, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We are located at [REGISTERED ADDRESS]. Contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL].

1. This website

The public website (this site) sets no cookies, uses no analytics or advertising trackers, and loads no third-party scripts, fonts or embeds. See the Cookie notice. Like any web server, ours records standard technical request logs (such as IP address, time and page requested) for security and troubleshooting, kept for [SERVER LOG RETENTION PERIOD].

2. What we collect when you have an account

  • Account details: your email address and a protected form of your password.
  • Token activity: tokens you buy and spend, which articles and publishers they were spent at, and the times. We need this to keep an accurate balance and to pay publishers.
  • Payment information: payments are handled by Stripe. We receive confirmation of a payment and limited details such as the card brand and last four digits. We do not receive or store your full card number.
  • Plugin and account use: when you are signed in, the plugin communicates with our servers to sign you in and, as those features are offered, to check your balance and complete spends. The plugin may also send usage reports made of aggregate counts, such as how many ads were blocked, which are used for statistics like time saved. These reports do not include the pages you visit or your browsing history. Blocking ads itself happens in your browser.
  • Messages: anything you send to us, such as support emails or a publisher enquiry.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your browsing or reading history for advertising.

3. How we use it

  • to run your account, process purchases and spends, and pay publishers;
  • to prevent fraud and abuse, and to secure the Service;
  • to send you emails about your account, receipts and security, and to reply to you;
  • to improve the Service, using aggregated or de-identified information where practical;
  • to meet legal, tax and accounting duties.

4. Who we share it with

  • Stripe, to take payments and to pay Partner Publishers.
  • Partner Publishers, only what is needed to give you access to an article and to account for the payment, such as that a paid access took place. We do not give publishers your payment details.
  • Our email system. Product email is sent from a system we run ourselves, and delivered through an outbound mail relay.
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers who run our servers for us.
  • Authorities and advisers, where the law requires or to protect rights, and professional advisers under confidentiality.

5. How long we keep it

We keep account and token records while your account is open and afterwards as long as needed for accounting, tax, fraud-prevention and legal reasons, generally [ACCOUNTING RECORDS RETENTION PERIOD]. We then delete or anonymise them.

6. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, to object to or limit some uses, and to complain to a data protection authority. Email [CONTACT EMAIL] to make a request. We may need to confirm your identity first, and may keep records the law requires us to keep. You can stop non-essential emails at any time.

7. Security

We use technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including protecting passwords with a strong one-way method. No system is perfectly secure, and we will notify you and regulators of a breach where the law requires.

8. Children

The Service is not for anyone under [MINIMUM AGE]. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes

We will update this policy when our practices change, and post the new date at the top. For material changes we will tell account holders by email.
