How ThankMu works

Four steps. The first one is free and is all most people need to start.

1. Install the plugin. The ThankMu browser plugin blocks ads on the sites you visit. Seethe plugin page for availability.
2. Create an account when you want one. An account is designed to keep your token balance and your reading stats in one place. You only need it to spend tokens.
3. Add tokens. Tokens are prepaid credits that you buy with a card. Your account will show what you bought and what you have left. Details are on the tokens page.
4. Read past the paywall. When an article at a partner publisher is paywalled, you can spend tokens to open it. You read it on the publisher's own site. The publisher receives a share of what you paid.

Before you click

ThankMu is designed to tell you whether an article is free or paywalled, and to point you to free coverage of the same story where it exists. These features are planned, and are meant to be useful even before any publisher has joined.

What we do not do

• We are not a news site. You read on the publisher's website.
• We do not sell your reading history to advertisers.
• Tokens are not a cryptocurrency, and they cannot be traded or cashed out.
